How the Digital Literacy Program is Impacting Education in Kenya – David Esabwa

The Digital Literacy Program (DLP), aims at promoting universal access and equitable distribution of ICT infrastructure in primary schools.
The focus of the programme is to enhance learning through the use of digital technologies. Emphasis is on the digital content and the benefits that come with it.
The Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) is being implemented in all public primary schools in Kenya.
The project, which has already commenced will deliver over 1.2 million devices to all public primary schools. Devices [laptops for teachers and tablets for pupils] are fitted with KICD approved content. Content for class 1 and 2 is available in 5 subjects.
23,000 schools will be installed with Digital Literacy Programme devices in all the 47 Counties.
This programme is simply an equalizer. There is now no difference between a child in Wajir in Northern Kenya, and another in New York or Beijing.
Because of the Digital Literacy Programme, many other benefits are being realized in our communities including electricity connection, security and even learning for parents.
